COE Committee Defers Decision
on L.A. Hills School Reorganization
SAN JOSE, CA – A preliminary public hearing Thursday regarding a
resolution to develop a new K-8 school district in Los Altos Hills ended with a
decision to take up the issue again in January.
The five-hour hearing was attended by about 200 people, with more than 50 of
them addressing the Santa Clara County Committee on School District
Organization. After hearing testimony from those who submitted the resolution,
the three affected school districts and members of the public, the committee
discussed the issue for about an hour.
Members then decided to take up the issue again on Jan. 25, in order to more
fully study submitted material, and have some questions answered by staff.
The committee decided to also take additional public comment on Jan. 25,
because about another 50 people who had registered to speak Thursday were unable
to do so in the time frame. Only those remaining registered speakers will be
heard at the Jan. 25 meeting.
Should the Committee vote on Jan. 25 to develop a plan for a new district, it
would be the first step of a multi-step process. At any of several subsequent
steps along the way, the decision to develop a plan agreement could be
overturned. Should that occur, the process would end.
If the Committee votes not to develop the plan, the process simply will end
at that point.
The January meeting will be held at 4 p.m. at the Santa Clara County Office
of Education, 1290 Ridder Park Dr., San Jose.
