Number of Santa Clara County Schools
Reaching API Target Continues to Grow
SAN JOSE, CA--As has been the case since the inception of California’s
Academic Performance Index, students in Santa Clara County have outperformed
their peers statewide, according to an analysis of 2006 results by the Santa
Clara County Office of Education.
The analysis of data for the 2006 API Base Report, which the California
Department of Education is releasing today, shows:
- SCC median Base 2006 API was 785 compared to 721 statewide.
- SCC median Base API has increased since 2000 from 741 to 785; 44 points.
- 44 percent of SCC schools (161 of 363) have a 2006 Base API at or above
800, compared to 27% statewide (2,397 of 8,877).
- SCC district median Base API 2006 was higher than districts in the state,
781 compared to 740.
Also, five of the top 10 performing schools in the state are in the county,
topped by a perfect score:
| Faria (William) Elementary |
Cupertino Union |
1000 |
| Millikin Elementary |
Santa Clara Unified |
994 |
| Dilworth (Nelson S.) Elementary |
Cupertino Union |
986 |
| Hoover (Herbert) Elementary |
Palo Alto Unified |
983 |
| Oak Avenue Elementary |
Los Altos Elementary |
982 |
The analysis also shows that challenges remain. For example, elementary and
middle schools have made significant growth in median APIs from 2000 Base API to
2006 Base API with elementary schools gaining 59 points, and middle schools 58
points. But high schools have dropped 7 points.
