COE to Operate Classes
For Students of Closing Charter School
SAN JOSE, CA – The SCCOE is making arrangements to set up and
operate classes for the students of Pathfinder High School, a charter school
whose board voted last week to close its facility on Jan. 31, 2007 because of
financial difficulties.
Various options are being explored as to where to house the 71 Pathfinder
students, who have been attending the Pathfinder facility on South King Road in
East San Jose. Parents also have the option of seeking to place their children
in schools in their home districts.
Representatives from the SCCOE will hold a meeting with parents on Tuesday,
January 23 at 6 p.m. at the school site, 370B S. King Road, to discuss the
situation and answer questions.
"We need the parents' help," said Joe Fimiani, SCCOE assistant
superintendent for Student Services. "It's crucial that everyone involved
helps to encourage these students to keep going to school."
The Santa Clara County Board of Education chartered Pathfinder in January
2005. The Pathfinder board of directors voted on January 11 to close the
facility, "due to serious lack of funding," according to a letter sent to
parents by Steven H. Nakano, president of the Pathfinder board.
