JOB TITLE: Delivery Driver
DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To operate a delivery vehicle in the pick up and delivery of School District or educational media materials and mail to designated County Office sites and schools. Employees in this classification receive general supervision for the effective and timely delivery of a variety of educational media materials, equipment, and mail and requires attention to detail
TYPICAL DUTIES
Delivers educational media materials, films, and mail to a variety of School District and County Office work/school sites throughout the County in a timely manner
Operates assigned delivery vehicle safely and efficiently
Loads and unloads vehicle with specified media materials and films to be delivered/returned
Receives and checks pick up, deliver, and/or packing slips for delivery/pick up locations
Checks in films as picked up to verify their return on due-back dates
Maintains a variety of records and logs related to deliveries and vehicle maintenance
Obtains appropriate signatures to verify receipt of special items delivered and provides information regarding deliveries as requested
Delivers and picks up mail and other printed materials to and from assigned work/school sites
Performs pre-safety check and inspection of delivery vehicle ensuring proper and safe operation prior to starting assigned route
Performs routine maintenance and servicing of vehicle such as adding gas, oil, and other needed fluids and cleaning vehicle as needed
Reports major repairs or servicing needs to proper authority
May inspect, clean, and repair film
Performs related duties as required
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Possession of:
a valid and appropriate California Driver's License
a driving record which meets the County Office of Education's insurance requirements
Knowledge of:
the proper methods and techniques for delivering supplies and materials
safe driving practices and traffic laws
appropriate safety precautions used in the lifting and moving of supplies and materials
Ability to:
safely drive and operate a delivery vehicle
understand and follow both oral and written instructions
perform mathematical calculations using basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
maintain and adhere to a delivery schedule
meet the physical requirements necessary to successfully perform assigned duties
learn assigned delivery routes and stops
establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
