GENERAL POSTING

POSITION: Coordinator, Instructional Support

PROGRAM: Head Start, Children's Services Department

CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in education, psychology, or a related field; must meet all requirements of Option 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 on the attached supplement; and have a valid California driver's license and three years of job-related experience working with preschool children, with demonstrated competence.

Must have:

Knowledge of early childhood development curriculum, recommended classroom materials, learning environments, teaching strategies, and grant and funding concepts and sources;

Skill in communicating with large and small group audiences (bilingual ability - English/Spanish - is preferred); collecting and assembling data, preparing reports, monitoring progress and analyzing data; budget preparation; and working effectively with others in a wide variety of situations;

Ability to modify systems, procedures and programs within area of assigned responsibility; select, motivate, counsel and evaluate support personnel.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Coordinates an integrated and comprehensive Head Start Program consisting of multiple centers and classrooms; supervises and evaluates teachers and aides; coordinates the integration of the educational component into the program; designs and implements program services to meet federal performance standards; facilitates parent program linkages and promotes parent training; assesses classroom facilities; provides input to budget planning process; and performs all other related duties.

Provides leadership in emergencies (facility breakdowns, child abuse, etc.); assigns teachers and aides to meet specific needs (bilingual, cultural, etc.); determines staff workloads, schedules, and responsibilities; identifies staff training needs; resolves staff conflicts; adjusts classroom facilities in order to comply with licensing requirements; assigns duties to area teacher according to classroom needs; and evaluates classroom curriculum presentation, taking any needed corrective action, developing and monitoring improvement plans, and so on.

STARTING DATE: Immediately after completion of employee selection and orientation process. Employment must not commence prior to Human Resources authorization.

SALARY: $49,872 - $63,651 based on a 12-month contract on the current salary schedule. An additional $1,200 stipend shall be granted for a Master's Degree, or $2,000 shall be granted for an earned doctorate. Salary will be prorated for fewer days worked in a school year.
