CALIFORNIA TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANCE PROJECT
(CTAP)
The Position
The Coordinator, Staff Development reports to the Manager, Technology/Curriculum and coordinates, develops, and organizes projects that are specially funded, usually with a limited life; oversees pertinent training activities; and performs related duties including: develop technology-related staff development opportunities throughout Santa Clara County schools; prepare information regarding trainings for electronic distribution and web posting; organize, schedule and deliver appropriate technology trainings, locate appropriate assistance and resources to support schools/districts in their technology needs; assist in the implementation and evaluation of California Educational Technology grant awardees in Santa Clara County; serve as liaison between the schools and districts and the California Department of Education; attend Region 5 CTAP Advisory Council and other CTAP-related meetings as appropriate; and prepare monthly written reports of activities for immediate supervisor.

The ability to develop, provide, and coordinate technology training, inservices, and/or workshops;

Skill in researching, synthesizing, developing technology-related curricula and/or grant proposals;
The ability to create and coordinate programs from within a "systems" organizational perspective;
The ability to lead highly-energized teams, characterized by honest and open communication, mutual respect, and commitment to the organization as a whole;
The ability to act as an agent of change;
Familiarity with state and federal technology grant programs and related resources; and
Specialization in facilitating school teams for technology proposal writing and project implementation.
Qualifications
Required Certification, Education and Experience:
Must have a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Education or a related field, Master's degree preferred; a valid California Elementary or Secondary Teaching Credential; Administrative Services Credential preferred; and a valid California driver's license.
Candidates must have at least three years of technology-related work experience with demonstrated competence.

Salary & Benefits
The Coordinator, Staff Development, is compensated at $57,733 - $73,683, annually (based on the current salary schedule); plus an annual stipend of $1,200 for a Master's degree or $2,000 for an earned doctorate. The Office provides 22 vacation days and 12 days of sick leave per year, as well as income protection, life insurance, and excellent health, dental, and vision care plans. Visiting educator agreements are also available.

Selection Procedure
Application materials will be screened for the best-qualified candidates to be invited to an interview.
Initial interviews will be conducted the week of December 7, 1998, by a panel of educational administrators and parents who will evaluate job-related abilities and recommend candidates for a second interview.
A final selection will be made, following the second interview, by the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services. It is anticipated that the successful candidates will begin employment January 11, 1999.

The County Office
The Santa Clara County Office of Education (COE) is a champion of public education, serving as an exemplary regional resource to students, parents, districts, agencies, and businesses. As the educational service agency for the region, the COE works with the county's 37 school and community college districts, and provides services to several surrounding counties as well. The COE's Commitment 2000 Long-Range Plan outlines a new direction for the Office that will place it in the forefront of educational reform.
The County Office is looking for proven leaders to join the effort to define the COE's role in public education, and develop its ability to provide high-quality, high-value, mandated and contracted services to schools. These leaders will guide the COE team to find better ways to meet the needs of the students.
With a staff of 1,400 employees and an annual budget of over $100 million, the Santa Clara COE provides services that reach more than 250,000 public school students and their families.
CA Technology Assistance Project
The California Technology Assistance Project (CTAP) is a state-wide educational technology leadership initiative designed to provide assistance to schools and districts in integrating technology into teaching and learning. CTAP promotes the effective use of educational technology through assistance in staff development, technology assistance, information and learning resources, telecommunications infrastructure, and coordination and funding. CTAP-Region V serves schools and districts in Santa Clara, Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties. This grant-funded position is contingent upon continued funding.
