Job Description

CREATIVE ARTS COORDINATOR

SUMMARY: Plans, organizes, coordinates, and oversees various professional development, community building, and advocacy programs within Creative Education Services; represents the County Office of Education at local, state, and national levels in creative arts education; supports fund development; and performs all other related duties.

ACTIVITIES:

65% PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT/CAPACITY BUILDING
Coordinates the development and implementation of a coordinated network of professional development experiences in arts education for pre-service and practicing teachers, school administrators, teaching artists, and other community stakeholders; coordinates and monitors the implementation of grants, technical assistance, and consulting services to school districts and other partners; develops and implements customized arts professional development for schools and districts; coordinates and facilitates needs assessment, strategic planning, and other capacity building strategies with clients; develops and implements countywide and regional professional development opportunities in arts education (e.g., Arts in Your Classroom Annual Conference, Arts in the Classroom Series); and collaborates with the County Office of Education Professional Development Services and other departments to integrate creative education content and strategies into other training contexts; recruits, trains, evaluates and directs the work of consultants and in-house trainers; and oversees the content development and implementation of bimonthly capacity building workshops for school/district arts leads.

15% COMMUNITY BUILDING
Identifies cultivates, and sustains strategic partnerships among arts, education, and community-based organizations in order to advance the arts in education and community building; plans and implements community education events regarding current research, promising practices, and thought leadership in arts education (e.g., Creative Education Symposium Series, Arts Education Expo); identifies and promotes diverse and exemplary youth work in the visual and performing arts (e.g., Young Artists Showcase, youth performing ensembles at events); and develops and disseminates arts education resources through the County Office of Education communication channels (e.g., administrator meetings, workshops, online, publications).

10% ADVOCACY
Represents the SCCOE at school and district arts meetings and events within Santa Clara County; participates in regional arts education networks.

5% BUDGET AND FUND DEVELOPMENT
Assists in budget development and monitors budget allocations and related requests; contributes research and writing to grant proposals and reports.

5% RELATED ACTIVITIES
Performs all other related duties.

DECISION-MAKING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING: Interprets current client/school/district needs, and determines criteria for the selection of presenters and trainers. Develops and implements short-term goals in own program/department; requires some exercise of judgment and discretion in interpreting and adapting guidelines to specific problems; situations are somewhat varied and moderately complex; and participates in decisions that have major impact on a division and/or its clients.

REQUIRED MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of advanced technical skills in formulating and evaluation training methods and programs; knowledge of current and innovative training theory, techniques and methods; skill to facilitate and organize creative educational needs assessment and strategic planning activities; ability to create effective and relevant training modules, courses and evaluation mechanisms; knowledge of grant or proposal writing; skill and ability to use office application programs; skill to select and evaluate professional experts, trainers and presenters; advanced skill in communicating, orally, and, in writing, with large and small group audiences; skill in collecting and assembling data, preparing reports, monitoring progress and analyzing data; skill in budget preparation; ability to administer programs; ability to direct, train and monitor others of comparable skill; and skill in working with others in a wide variety of situations.

REQUIRED MINIMUM TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND LICENSING: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in organizational development, management, staff development, or a related field; a valid California Driver's License.

REQUIRED MINIMUM PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE: Two years of job-related experience with demonstrated competence.

REQUIRED INTERACTION (NON-AUTHORITY): Contacts are somewhat unstructured, and are frequently with high-level individuals inside and outside the unit; and contacts are to gather data for decision-making and problem-solving.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

ENVIRONMENT: Office setting, driving to various locations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone; seeing to read, prepare and proofread documents; continuous sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; regularly lifts and/or moves objects weighing up to 10 pounds and frequently lifts objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
