School Wellness Policy Workshop
A workshop to help with your district’s development and implementation of a
Local Wellness Policy will be held Monday, March 13 at the Santa Clara County
Office of Education.
The workshop includes two sessions:
The first, from 10 a.m. to noon, is designed to jump-start the process. It
will include a review of the section of the Child Nutrition and WIC
Reauthorization Act that requires any local education agency operating school
meal programs to have a Local Wellness Policy in effect by the first day of the
2006-2007 school year. This session will look at components and requirements of
a Local Wellness Policy. It also will discuss examples of ways to support a
coordinated school health program.
This session will be followed by a healthy lunch, served from noon to 1 p.m.
The second session, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., is designed for districts that
already have passed a board policy. It will cover implementation, monitoring and
evaluation of your policy. This session also will provide information on
coordinated school health programs and school health councils, and explore how
your Wellness Policy team can be the key to continued oversight of health
issues.
Interested parties may attend either or both sessions, which will be held in
the Oak Grove Room at the SCCOE, 1290 Ridder Park Dr., San Jose.
To attend, please RSVP to Steve Berta at 453-6982 or Steve_Berta@SCCOE.org.
The event is sponsored by the SCCOE and Santa Clara County Public Health
Department, Project LEAN.
