Student honored for art
Juan Alejandro "Alex" Loera, a student in the COE's special education program at Milpitas High School, has been named a runner-up in the National Foster Grandparent Art contest.
Juan's drawing (below), judged to be one of the top 10 entries, was of an
American flag with the faces of all of the American presidents.
Juan received a plaque, a framed copy of his artwork and a T-shirt with his artwork on it. His foster grandparent, Grandma Cielo Heras, (pictured with Juan) was on hand to congratulate him, as were his family, classroom staff and fellow students.
Juan's teacher, Noami Naranjo, said, "Alex has gained and mastered skills that have helped him to become more self-sufficient and independent. He likes routines and drilling on facts; for example, knowing all the presidents of the U.S., birthdays of people he knows, etc.
"He also likes listening to music and sometimes singing with it. He loves anything with cheese on it and pizza."
