Welcome to the North County ROP website. North County ROP provides students age 16, or juniors and seniors in high school with an opportunity to enroll in career technical classes while in high school. ROP classes are considered elective classes. Students may enroll in classes on their home campus or travel to other school sites for classes. Courses in career technical education turn students on to school in addition to educating students about college and future career opportunities. All students do not learn in the same way. NCROP offers classes utilizing a variety of teaching methods that address different learning styles. By using a "hands-on-approach" to instruction, NCROP classes promote a unique atmosphere for learning. Students understand the connection between their classes and the real world of work. ROP students often do not recognize that they are using algebra, geometry, or science in their courses because they enjoy the subject topics. Many ROP courses provide re-enforcement of language arts and math standards in daily lessons. Learning a subject becomes much easier when students are able to choose a class that is of interest to them. In 2006-2007, our follow-up study indicated that 93% of the high school graduates who completed an ROP course continued their education and/or training at the college level. These students also possess the necessary job skills and attitudes to be successful employees. Thus, NCROP provides business and industry with well-trained, productive individuals who have the ability to work their way through college. ROP courses help students find value in school.
