TAKE HOME BOOK PROGRAM
Web site: www.takehomebooks.org
The Take Home Book Program is a school based program that encourages families
to read with their children. This program is available to students in
kindergarten and first grade. Students receive a hard cover book and journal in
a sturdy canvas bag to take home each week. The Take Home Book Program costs
$700 per classroom and lasts for seven years. Each classroom set includes a
sturdy colorful canvas bag for twenty students and a collection of fiction and
nonfiction hardcover books. Student journals, costing $1.50 each, are consumable
and must be replaced annually.
The Take Home Book Program was placed in every Santa Clara County
Kindergarten classroom in 2000. It is time to replace the kits and consider
expanding the program to first grade.
