Communication Services is responsible for conveying the essence of the SCCOE—its mission, goals,
accomplishments, challenges and accountability. We disseminate information (about both the COE and
local schools) through publications, legislative updates and news releases. We provide public
relations, graphic design, and printing services to the public education community.
In addition, we forge corporate alliances to support COE and school district programs.

Media Relations
Communication Services reaches out to the media with a spectrum of information
about the SCCOE and the wider education community. We also provide timely
responses to media requests for information and analysis, whether related
directly to the COE or to broader education issues.
Print Services |
Print Services' main page
The COE Print Shop provides comprehensive printing and copying services for COE
and school district staffs. Colorful brochures, newsletters, invitations,
programs, flyers and posters can be printed on the shop's high-speed presses.
Business cards, letterhead, envelopes, invitations and NCR forms are available,
usually at a rate that is considerably less expensive than outside vendors.
Print Services offers black-and- white and color copiers, as well as spiral and
fast binding, folding, cutting and sorting capabilities.
Publications - External
Communication Services produces promotional and informational materials about
the COE and other educational programs. Concept, copy, graphic design and
production services are available to public schools and districts. The Education
Bulletin is produced for distribution to school principals, superintendents, and
others in the education, business, and general communities. Spotlight on Schools
chronicles COE activities for an audience of households throughout the county.
ED INK, which is distributed via e-mail to interested parties in the education
community, provides articles on education from the media. Also, the COE Web site
carries considerable information on education-related issues, events, statistics
and analysis.
Publications - Internal
Contact, a
monthly staff newsletter, is one of many internal communications edited and
produced by Communication Services. It is distributed in paper form and on the
COE Intranet. The Intranet also features information of interest to staff on
news, events and honors, along with a comprehensive Systems Manual that details
communication procedures. A Style Guide provides direction on logo use and proper form for
correspondence and publications.
Publications - Reference
The Public Schools Directory, providing address and phone data for the COE and
all county districts and schools, is produced in a hardbound form and
distributed each year. It also is available on the COE Web site. COE
presentation folders, an annual Master Calendar and a Style Guide are available.
Recognitions and Events
The COE organizes the annual Santa Clara County Teacher Recognition Day,
with support from National Semiconductor, the County Federal Credit Union,
San Jose Mercury News and others. Other recognition events include the
National Blue Ribbon and California Distinguished Schools Recognition, AVID
Program Graduation, Young Artists Showcase, 8th Grade Leadership Awards, Mock
Trial Winners Celebration, Take Your Children to Work, and Operation Graduate.
Communications publicizes the COE Employee of the Month and other award
recipients and produces certificates, plaques and other forms of internal and
public recognition.
Special Projects
Communication Services provides consulting, editing, design and printing
assistance to market COE and school district programs. Communication training is
available.
Web site
The COE Web sites—Internet and Intranet—are developed and managed by Communication Services.
The home page at www.sccoe.org provides instant access to information
on COE news and services, as well as to education data and resources, job
opportunities (including Ed-Join), and the county's Public Schools Directory
and School District Locator. The Intranet offers information of interest
to COE staff, including on-line and downloadable forms, a multimedia section,
and a suggestion "box."
