Welcome to the Santa Clara County State High School Mock Trial Program!
The Santa Clara County Office of Education and the Santa Clara County Bar Association are proud to provide a unique opportunity for high school students to learn what it is like to prepare and present a legal case before the court.
How does High School Mock Trial work? Teams of nine to twenty five students study a hypothetical case that is provided by the Constitutional Rights Foundation (CRF). Teams conduct legal research and receive individual coaching by their school coach and a volunteer attorney in trial preparation, courtroom protocol, courtroom procedure, analysis and communication.Preparation begins in the fall and culminates for the County competition in February. The winning team represents Santa Clara County at the state competition.

If teams wish to participate in the 2017-18 Mock Trial Tournament, a team representative must attend our Coaches' Meeting on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at the Santa Clara County Office of Education from 4:30-6:45 p.m. in the Oak Grove Room (2nd Floor, South Building).

From 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., there will be a coaches' information meeting discussing the tournament logistics and important dates. This is an obligatory meeting for all teams wishing to participate in this season's Mock Trial Tournament.
Following the information meeting, there will be a special presentation from the coaches of the last four county winners on how to develop a successful Mock Trial program. The "TIPS FROM COUNTY CHAMPS" will feature guest speakers Stephen Smith and Marisa Cantone from Prospect; Mark Shem from Lynbrook; James Scharf from Willow Glen; and Matt Parrella and Howard Barnes from Sobrato. They will share their secrets on managing program logistics, casting, recruitment, fundraising, and developing skilled attorneys and witnesses. This presentation will be held from 5:45 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. A special thank you to those coaches for volunteering their time to help make Santa Clara County a mock trial powerhouse!
